LET'S MAKE OUR RENEWABLE MARK
We are a non-profit organization trying to inform the public about renewable energy and its current situation surrounding COVID-19 in Mexico. Scroll down if you want to get to know more about us and what is really happening right now.
OUR CURRENT SITUATION
The Mexican government has stated that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, new rules will be implemented in May 2020 that limit the role renewable energies such as solar energy in favor of fossil fuels. These rules are set to limit the creation and output of renewable power stations and limit the creation of renewable energy projects.
The effects of this lead to damage to wildlife in the form of the increase in oil and fossil fuels, and a political controversy surrounding the loss of jobs and loss of confidence in investors. Many foreign companies are now facing challenges due to the complications these laws bring.
RENEWABLE ENERGY V.S. COVID-19
IN WHAT WAYS IS COVID-19 AFFECTING RENEWABLE ENERGIES?
Renewable energies have been struggling to thrive in Mexico, and COVID is only making things worse. The government is using this pandemic as an excuse to keep on with these attacks towards renewable energies.
Juan Pablo Londoño Aguedelo, a Wood Mackenzie power markets research analyst said this about the topic, “Overall, AMLO's measures have been continually adding regulatory uncertainty to an already-opaque global context during the coronavirus outbreak, directly affecting projects under development and in operation.”
WHAT CAN WE DO?
Seeing as how the current situation stands, there are things that us as citizens can still do to help renewable energies. For instance, we can inform others about what is happening, and try to use renewable energies if possible.
As it stands, it is not safe to leave your homes, but once this pandemic is over, us at Renewable Mark will take it upon themselves to try and make a change; a mark you could say. We will from social movements to get a reaction out of the government; they need to see the error in their ways. The lack of renewable energies affects jobs, the environment, and even investment on the country after all.
